About Quincy Halverson
Quincy is the gating reviewer on every BAR Score that ships. His job is to make sure the score on a leaderboard could be reproduced — by a different reviewer, with the same data, against the same rubric — and arrive within rounding distance of the published number. If that test fails, the ranking does not ship.
His background is in industrial engineering, not in any of the app categories Best App Rankings covers. That is by design. The methodologist who decides how an app is scored should not be the person whose career depends on the answer; Quincy’s incentives sit upstream of any individual ranking.

Pre-BAR work
At Consumer Reports, Quincy designed protocols for kitchen-appliance reliability testing, fitness-equipment durability scoring, and the first-generation smart-home device evaluation framework. He served on the internal panel that reviewed scoring-rubric changes before they were published to the consumer-facing reports. The cadence of “fixed weights, blind scoring panel, documented re-test schedule” that defines BAR comes directly from that environment.
Editorial focus
Quincy designs the BAR Score weights, signs off on weight adjustments, and reviews every published leaderboard for rubric compliance before publication. He is not credited as the author of individual ranking articles — that work is led by Tamsin and the category-specialist contributors — but his sign-off is required for any score that appears on the site.
Conflicts of interest
Quincy holds no equity, advisory roles, or affiliate relationships with any of the apps reviewed on Best App Rankings. He has not received fees from any company whose product appears on a BAR leaderboard. His income is derived from this publication.
